HANDBOOK

Welcome to Just thrive. We are so happy to have you and your child/ren here. Please have a read-through to help you feel well-prepared for the start of your dance journey here and the culture of the studio.

All info regarding classes, timetables, shows, etc. is all found on our app. Please search and download the app Momence through the play store or apple store. If you are new to the studio, you will need to register and sign up through the website. Once you have done so, log into Momence using the same email you registered with. Through here you are able to enroll for classes each term and exams when it comes to that time. 

Booking Classes All classes must be booked through the Momence - Just Thrive app.

Families can choose:

1. Book & Pay in the App Log in, select your classes, and pay securely online. You can also set up tuition payments in the app if you’d like to spread the cost across 4 payments thoughout the term. 

2. Request an Invoice Email Carla at carla@justthrive.co.nz with the classes, days, and times you’d like. An invoice will be sent to you, and you’re welcome to pay this in instalments over the term. Payments will be reconciled against your invoice, but it’s your responsibility to ensure these are completed on time.

Payment Terms:

Term fees are due by the end of term.

A $30 late fee will apply if payments are not completed, unless prior arrangements are made directly with Carla.

No payments can be taken over the counter at the studio — everything must go through the app or invoice system.

This process helps us keep records accurate, saves time chasing payments, and ensures every student’s place in class is secure.


Studio Etiquette

We are a kind inclusive dance school, where we believe there is a place for everyone who loves to dance. Please always be kind and respectful to each other, and encourage each other. We do not condone any unkind talk or behavior toward any dancers, parents or teachers, from any dancers, parents or teachers. 

There is NO smoking or vaping on Just thrive grounds.

Parents are welcome to watch classes, we ask you are quiet and respectful to not disturb the class or distract the students. If you would like to talk while the class is on we ask that you take those conversations outside.

In the large studio, there is seating to sit on. Please keep the walkway areas clear.

In the smaller studio there are 3 seats available, if these are full please use the waiting areas and playroom area. Please do not sit on the studio floor we need the full floor area for the dancers.


Class Attire
  • For all classes we ask that your child is inappropriate dance wear. e.g no baggy t-shirts and pants. As teachers, we need to be able to see the body in order to correct positioning and alignment. Leotards are preferred for all dance classes. 
  • Dance shoes need to be worn for the correct genres, these help you be able to dance and turn correctly and have the feel of the shoes. Please see below for correct dancewear and footwear. We have a dancewear store in the studio, all shoes and other dancewear requirements are available to be purchased here.
  • Hair needs to be tied back and off the face for all dance classes.
  • Please be on time and ready to start with shoes on and hair done.


Exam Information

You will be asked during term 2 whether your child would like to sit exams. Exams generally run between the middle to end of September. You will be able to register for the applicable exam classes and any medal tests through the app.

Payment for exams will need to be made by the cutoff date or you will incur late fee penalties.

All class info and resources are found on our app for your child to be able to practice at home, we do ask that your child/ren make the most of these resources and the time to practice at home so they feel confident and ready for exams. Private lessons are available for anyone who needs any extra help and can be booked through the Just Dance app. Parents are not able to watch exams except for Rosette presentations and medal tests.

Exam Uniform

If your child is doing exams there is proper exam wear that needs to be worn and hair requirements for each dance genre. All dancewear needed is available at the studio. 

Ballet

  • Black capped leotard (Ros - Grade 2)
  • Black strappy leotard (Grade 3 & up)
  • Skirt provided for the exam
  • Pink ballet tights (grade 1 & up)
  • Pink ballet shoes
  • Hair - classic ballet bun (Hair must be gelled and hairsprayed back)

Tap

  • Girls
  • Capped sleeve black leotard (Ros - Grade 2)
  • Strappy black leotard (Grade 3 & up)
  • Black bike shorts (Ros - Grade 2)
  • Black leggings (Grade 3 & up)
  • Black tap shoes
  • Hair - Double french braid (hairsprayed or gelled to keep in place)

Jazz

Contemporary

Showtime

Show time is such a fun time of year, Term 4 is solely focused on our end-of-year show. It is not compulsory for all students to take part in the end-of-year show but we encourage this it's a really fun time for the kids to show off the skills and techniques they have worked on over the year. Each student taking part in the show is required to attend any extra rehearsals.

We run 2-3 shows over the 1 day, It is a big day for the kids but so much fun. Due to space and the amount of students we have, we do not have the room to accommodate all parents backstage. Each age group will be assigned 1-2 helpers for each show there will be a chance to sign up to help with this during term 4. Your dancers will be well looked after and kept safe. Additional info will be sent out beforehand with everything you need to know for the day.

  • There is a $20 dress rehearsal fee which is payable in term 4,
    if you are opting out of the show we need to know before Term 4 commences.
  • There is a costume hire fee of $30 per costume your child has, payable in term 4.
  • All term fees need to be paid by Show date, unless other arrangements have been made with Carla.
  • All costumes are to be left at forum north at the end of the last show and checked off as returned by the parent helper. 
  • All costumes hired out are the property of Just thrive, please look after them otherwise there may be a charge to replace them.
  • Due to space and the amount of students we have, we do not have the room to accommodate
    all parents back stage.
  • Each age group will be assigned 1-2 helpers for each show there will be a chance to sign up to
    help with this during term 4.
  • Your dancers will be well looked after and kept safe.
    Please sure you have the Momence app downloaded and are subscribed to emails so you
    don’t miss any important information, All show info is communicated this way.

Policies

Policys: Fees

1.1 Fees must be paid by the end of the third week of term unless other arrangements have been
made.

1.2 No refunds are offered once term commences, unless due to injury and a medical cert is
provided.

1.3 If you leave during a term (once the first week has passed) your fees will not be refunded.

1.4 Payments through the app or online bank transfers only.

1.5 If you decide to discontinue dancing with Just Dance please contact us via email admin@justthrive.co.nz. 

1.6 Private lessons are to be paid at the time of the class in cash to the teacher. Please check with
your teacher for their rates.

1.7 No refunds are given for missed classes due to family holidays, birthdays or school events.

1.8 A registration fee of $10 (for the first child) $5 for the next up to $20 max will be charged per
family each term.


Policy 2. Choreography

2.1 Choreography for performances and competitions remain the property of Just Dance, the teachers or the syllabus providers.

2.2 Choreography must not be used or copied or retaught without the choreographers permission.

2.3 Students who leave Just Dance are not permitted to perform choreography that was developed
specifically for them unless they have approval from the choreographer.


Policy 3. Competitions


3.1 Local competitions run throughout Northland each year, this is open to all students.

3.2 You need to register your interest with your dance teacher and fill in the email that comes out in
term 4 each year.

3.3 Availability for choreography comes on a first in basis. Your teacher may recommended someone
else if they do not have the time or are already full.

3.4 Choreography created is made to last 2-3 years and students are expected to use their dances for
this time period.

3.5 Costumes are sourced by the parents/students. The choreographer will give input into their thoughts on what style suits the dance. If you hire from the studio there will be hire-age fee’s to pay.

3.6 Private lessons and studio hire can be booked for practice time, it is expected you practice outside of your private lesson times and is the student’s responsibility to get the dance stage ready. The teacher or choreographer has the right to not allow the dance on stage if they feel the student is not yet ready.

3.7 All entry registration and entry fees are up to the parent/student to enter and pay.

3.8 Private lesson payment is expected to be paid on the day of the lesson and in cash.

3.9 Studio hire fees are cash payable and expected to be paid the day of hire, Please pop cash into hire box at the front desk.


Policy 4: Health and Safety

4.1 All students must be supervised and with a parent or caregiver until class starts.

4.2 Siblings are not permitted on the dance floor or to use any of the equipment found in the studios
without permission. If they are disruptive during class times you will be asked to take them out.

4.3 Just Thrive will make all efforts to help our students to avoid injury. However, it is important that
you understand and agree that in participating in any dance class, workshop, rehearsal or
performance, there is a possibility of physical injury. Just Thrive and any of its owners, employees, or
teachers will not be held responsible or liable for any injury or damage to students while dancing at
Just Thrive studios, or for any injury while misusing equipment.
